The Basement

As one of the senior students of Nino Bernardo at The Basement, I first started Wing Chun with "Sifu" in 1981 at University London Union (ULU) and Holy  Hall before he moved the class to Scout Hall then finally at The Basement  from 1984 - 2000.

Training and Concepts

Wing Chun is a precise, repetative and physical art that uses concepts in its teaching to convey certain meanings. Once grasped, these concepts can be applied simply and effectively in the training and in everyday life.

The training years at the Basement were the most intense and rewarding sessions I had. The Basement was a 'sharing pot' in which we enhanced our learning experience by sharing and developing our skills and techniques. Those elements are what earned the Basement the reputation it deserved.

The teaching methods provided me with the tools that I needed to grow and develop the skills and knowledge that I had acquired. The training with fellow students such as, Kenneth Robinson, Mark Wallach (the unit wing chun) and Guy Cofie (the warehouse) - who now run their own schools -  was an added asset to my training and one of the most rewarding times in my training history.
